Hi everyone, My name is Steven Smrt, and I am a first year teacher at Horizon Science Academy-Belmont, located in the Belmont-Craign neighborhood of Chicago. Throughout my first year of teaching, I have learned that classrooms are truly not made up of four walls, desks, and other materials. Rather, classrooms truly consist of the learning that happens within those four walls and students that sit in the desks. My classroom is truly centered around students and what gets them engaged and discovering new things. Although a majority of my students are financially disadvantaged, this does not destroy their attitude and their spirit. Their resilience to learn and the positivity that they bring to school every day inspires me to help them grow into the young men and women that can change the world around them. They are the real heroes. Your assistance and support of my classroom is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
