Due to our lack of funds at our school this year, we are unable to provide enriching activities through the use of chapter books in which to foster reading for pleasure at home. Unfortunately, our new reading program, does not provide the in-depth critical thinking that a chapter book provides a student. At the beginning of this school year, I began using a set of my personal chapter books with my students. While working through our activities, I noticed their profound love of reading through the excitement in which they demonstrated as they waited for class to begin. Many students were discussing the previous night’s reading, while waiting in line for the bell to ring. We would be so appreciative to continue to have exciting chapter books which will enhance our English Language Arts program, through building their oral language skills and interactively sharing motivating reading experiences. Any assistance that you can provide my classroom in growing to become avid readers will be greatly appreciated. We would love to read Magic Tree House and Amelia Bedelia!
