This year, our school is working on a HUGE reading initiative. Our goal is to ensure that each of our students is college ready by empowering them through reading. We have revamped our Guided Reading program to make certain that our students are able to lead choice-filled lives. Guided Reading is a vital part of our day at our school. With each lesson, I try to foster a joy in reading that invigorates my students to not only love reading, but pushes them beyond their limits to become great readers. Our library has a selection of books for my students to chose from, but I've noticed that my students are not excited to go book shopping each week. They have grown tired of the same books each week. My desire is to teach my students to skills needed to live choice-filled lives. This means that my children will have the ability to choose colleges and jobs they desire because of their academic capabilities and not because of their academic limitations. These Guided Reading books are the first steps to ensuring that my students have access to reading materials that challenge and encourage them to be great readers.
