This year, Schulenburg ISD has allowed me to explore some new options for the students, therefore the SISD MakerSpace Lab has been established! (A makerspace is an area where students come experiment, invent, and build using science, technology, engineering, and most of all tinkering.) The students have multiple hands-on opportunities to create and be the "inventor"; whether the task was assigned or they start from scratch. No creation is too small and ALL creations are celebrated! We encourage independent and collaborative thinking through the use of the hands-on materials available. In the first 9 weeks of this year, I have been amazed by the imagination and creativity revealed by our students while in the MakerSpace Lab! One of the opportunities available is the use of LEGO Robotics (LEGO WeDo 2.0 Kits). I was blessed to receive 4 of these kits through a local grant, although students work in groups of 3, and sometimes 4, so this learning environment is not ideal for all of the students in the group. (LEGO recommends 2 students per kit.) Therefore, to allow more students to truly benefit and receive the full experience from these kits, I am asking for 2 more kits to have in the lab; plus replacement kit sets, in case any pieces were to get lost. These kits would not only be used for the MakerSpace Lab, but they would also be used for the new UIL Robotics competition we will participating in, during the month of February. Thank you, in advance, for your support! Please know your kindness and generosity do not go unnoticed, and the students will greatly benefit from this opportunity provided to them. You will be the difference in the lives of our students at SISD!
