Playing board games and card games such as Scrabble, Checkers, Rummicub, Monopoly, and The Game of Life seems to be a bygone thing. Not in my classroom! By using games, my students will learn that teamwork and collaboration can be fun. The power of play to create community and team work is powerful for middle school students! Something as simple as a board game can change the way students see themselves at school. Games of all kinds help students to work through differences, learn to collaborate, and work as a team to solve problems. My students will benefit from the power of play because they can negotiate other personalities in constructive and meaningful ways.
