Experiences in nature help children develop familiarity and a love for the outdoors and our natural world. Young children learn best learning hands on, and what better way to explore and learn literacy, math, science, social emotional and critical thinking skills than IN nature, with nature. Our goal is to educate the next generation of children to have a deep connection with the natural world a commitment to protecting and improving their changing environment. Outdoor play reduces fear and fosters a love of nature. It also encourages children to become risk takers. By adding an Outdoor Mud Kitchen to our Outdoor Classroom, the children can extend one of their favorite indoor interest areas into their outdoor pay. Dramatic Play is central to children's healthy development and learning. It promotes social emotional skills: negotiating roles, cooperating and research shows it helps children to demonstrate more empathy. Physically it helps children develop fine motor skills. Language and Literacy is rich when dialogues occur between students and between students and teachers. Writing and reading can also be incorporated (shopping lists, recipes, etc). Cognitively, when children pretend they create pictures in their minds about past experiences and the scenarios they imagine. It helps with abstract thinking and problem solving.
