I teach Regents Chemistry at a visual and performing arts public high school in the heart of the city. A new laptop computer will help me in developing new and cutting edge lessons that will make the stereotypically boring science courses I teach come alive! I can also assign new media homework assignments, that my students will use the laptop to present, and in turn these skills will help prepare them for college-level work.
In this time of economic hardships, my urban students need to continue to develop their skills to make their college applications more competitive to top schools. My students have also expressed an interest in new media and applying chemistry topics to real-life scenarios.
My students will be able to use this laptop to do presentations in class on the topics that we learn in chemistry. They will be able to use their artistic skills to record/play videos and display artistic presentations in chemistry and any other class that I teach in the future.
I need a laptop computer with the capabilities to play and create DVDs, surf the web via wireless Internet, and a good deal of storage for complex presentations that require a large amount of memory. I can use this laptop to project my new and improved multimedia lesson plans. This resource will help me provide the necessary real-world connections that young artists need in order to understand the complex topics in chemistry.
Your help and support will ensure my students' success in their high school science endeavors and prepare them for future challenge that they will face in college.
