My class is very interested in learning how to bake. We read the book called "The Gingerbread Man" a few weeks ago and my students became very inquisitive on how to make a Gingerbread Man and how to bake other items such as cupcakes, cakes, and donuts.
I am requesting any sort of baking items to help my students expand their knowledge on baking because giving low-income students access to new technology and baking materials is an investment in their future. These items that we are requesting will give these low-income students hands-on experiences and help them to investigate more on baking. Books will help them to investigate and use their imagination.
We will also be going on some field trips to bakeries. We will be turning our classroom into a bakery. The students will make a web about what they know about baking, then sketch specific baking items, learn new vocabulary, molding baking items out of clay and play dough, painting baking items, and of course baking. We will be experimenting with different appliances to try different ways to bake certain foods.
At the end of our project, we will invite our families to a showcase night and the students will be able to show off all of their work, the students will teach their family everything that they have learned, they will have their families try foods they have baked, and then they will do a baking activity with their family.
