Many of my students struggle with executive functioning issues, which makes it hard for them to turn in work and achieve good grades. Academic Planners will combat these executive functioning issues by helping them learn organizational skills, thereby increasing independent living functioning. Students will write down appointments, deadlines, and events in their calendars. Copies of Dreams From My Father: students will participate in a class reading and discussion from topics related to the reading to help them explore their own experiences with race and social issues. Many of our students come to school hungry. Snacks will help combat hunger and improve motivation, focus, and classroom activities participation.
