Our students have had a limited experience with real physical activity. Many of them go home after school and do not do any physical activity at all. We have begun to broaden our PE program to include new, fun, and engaging activities that students can learn and enjoy outside of school as well. There is tons of research that connects classroom success, student behavior, and obesity issues to amount of physical activity. Experts have agreed for many years that Medicine balls are a great way to tone and build strength, and the best part is that anyone can use them. We need medicine balls. With specific exercises, you can tone the core, build stamina, work on accuracy, and have better coordination. Using a medicine ball takes as little as 10 minutes which is great for the school setting. With specific exercises, a medicine ball can work the abs, glutes and legs, arms and shoulders, chest and back, and the full body. The exercises that a medicine ball requires takes very little space, minimal time to set up, and ALL grade levels can benefit from them. Once students learn the proper technique, they can go home and do these activities for a lifetime of healthier living. As we build a well-rounded PE program, we can meet the needs of more students that to build their understanding and help them find enjoyment in activities for a active life.
