The materials that I am requesting for my classroom will allow my students to surpass their mathematical capacity. My students are all unique and they require differentiation within their ability. For some of my students, math is fun and may seem easy. These students can be challenged by engaging in tasks like graphing slope on a calculator. By eliminating the foundational math within the problem, they can focus on the content. For my students that struggle with math and struggle with foundational math skills, foundational functions can hinder their learning. The calculator will allow them to stay on track during instructional time and focus on the content without feeling lost because of their struggle with multiplication and division. All of my students may benefit from the use of a calculator in different ways, but they will all benefit from their experience and exposure to the technology that will take them to calculus, trigonometry, and beyond.
