Students with special needs are at a disadvantage academically due to the deficits they possess from their disabilities. This makes it difficult for them to obtain employment skills and maintain employment upon completion of high school and presents a need for additional assistance as opposed to their non-disabled peers. More specifically, students with moderate to severe disabilities require intense and consistent instruction and support in all areas: academic, vocational, independent living, social, etc. to ensure their post-secondary success. My goal as an educator is to provide my students with skills and experiences that they can apply to live after high school and having a Cricut machine in our classroom can help. My students learn best through hands-on experiences and having a Cricut cutting machine in our classroom will allow my students to create custom apparel and keepsakes that they can sell through their business enterprise to the school and the local community. They will enhance job skill development through leveled projects and work tasks. By learning how to create designs on Cricut, students will find their niche and tap into abilities that they never knew they had. It is also very likely that they will learn something they can use to start their own small business as seen on Shopify, Etsy, and other websites. Additionally, it will broaden student awareness and enhance other skills such as self-concept, self-determination, and self-advocacy.
