Many students in Central Unified receive Adapted Physical Education and Specially Designed PE services. These students need smaller class sizes, modified activities, and modified PE equipment. United Physical Education class was created to foster students that need support in physical education. The concept of creating an inclusive class, where peer coaches are learning leadership skills, and applying their knowledge to teach and support athletes was established. In this class, students of all ability levels will participate together in the physical education setting. United PE is a class designed for students with a firm grasp on basic sports skills who are interested in developing leadership skills and learning how to work with special populations. Students enrolled in United PE are paired with students with intellectual or physical disabilities. As a pair, students develop skills in various sports.
