I teach at an inner-city school in Charlotte, NC. Currently, we have approximately 967 students. About 48% of our scholars are Hispanic, 45% are Black and the remaining 7% are either white or other ethnicities. Approximately 98% of our scholars are on free/reduce lunch. We have a lot of students who are either homeless, impoverished, or refugees from another country. Even though our scholars are at risk, they are a very bright bunch of students who don't allow their economic disadvantages hinder them from learning. We are a Title 1 school, but we don't have a vast amount of resources that most schools have. As a result, our test scores are not the best year after year. Therefore, my goal is to create a positive and nurturing classroom conducive to learning through the use of hands-on activities and advance technology.
