This year our kindergarten team is raising money so we can take our students on an educational field trip to Tweetsie Railroad. They will have the chance to meet live characters from “Letterland,” our phonics program. Since Tweetsie is a little further from our school, a charter bus is necessary to travel two and a half hours. Due to the distance, we need access to restrooms. Our students are from a rural area that lacks a booming economy, therefore, they do not have the means to pay for this costly trip. We are a Title I school, and half of our children are on a free or reduced-price lunch plan. Some of our students come to school without knowing any letters and depend on programs such as “Letterland” to help bridge the gap and keep them engaged in learning. Without school field trips, many students would never experience simple trips to places like the zoo or the library. The school helps fund the local trips, but this year we want to expose them to something they may never otherwise experience! A trip to Tweetsie Railroad would be a once in a lifetime event for many of our students. Please consider donating to help us get these students to Tweetsie Railroad via chartered buses. All contributions are appreciated and will bring us closer to our goal!
