I am trying to stock my library with titles that students will be excited about like "20 Fun Facts About George Washington" or "So You Want to be President?." I want them to be able to read materials that they are interested in so that reading will be a fun activity. Students like to read books that have won an award like 2017 Newberry winner "The Girl Who Drank the Moon" or 2016 Caldecott winner "Finding Winnie." I think it makes them feel good when a book has won an award. Most of the titles that I chose are books that other libraries in my district have, but I don't. Students ask me all the time if I have new books and I usually have to say no. I usually only get a small amount of money at the beginning of the year and it doesn't go far. I want my students to have access to a variety of books so that they can improve their reading skills and therefore be better learners.
