In Middle School students have an opportunity to have one class where they can learn about skills that they are interested in. My particular group is centered on DIY Repair. We are using our woodworking skills to repair various projects around our school. My students are learning that it is still important to be able to fix, repair or be able to build something with your hands. The students have a list of repairs that need to be addressed around our school. We have set up the class so that we are divided into crews. Each crew has a foreman, a designer, builders and laborers. We take an order for a new project or repair from a teacher with a rough drawing. The designer refines the rough drawing and has it approved. The foreman then has to develop a plan and get the crew headed in the right direction. My Students are very eager to get to work on the projects. They all enjoy working with their hands. The items in this project are items that are needed to help assist these projects. The blower is for daily maintenance in our garden area. The Tamper proof Screw Drivers are to help lower our classroom desks. And the Trolley is to help move items around the school, specifically heavy items that students can not carry on their own.
