Engagement is everything in teaching! If you can engage a child, learning can take off and students can perform at higher levels of learning. COVID has impacted students in many ways. Our district has been focusing on social emotional learning, engagement, and technology. My students desperately need all of this. They need engagement and interaction with people and materials. Here is my Super Engaging Idea Wish List! Dice: These will allow students to interact with each other as they learn in math games or in other subjects. Ten frames: These are for a game that we like to play. I have students on their Chromebooks on a program called IXL. They are so engaged as they play games with these against each other. Boomwhackers: These are for social/emotional learning activities and brain breaks. They also teach musical concepts. Books: I am doing DYAD reading this year. Students are strategically partnered up and they read at the same time to maximize fluency. I usually go to the county library and check out 50 books at a time. I want to have my own engaging library in my classroom. Headphones: We need a few more headphones so we have a class set when students are doing Chromebook work. They are working on different levels and need good headphones. We currently just have the dollar store cheapies. Mice: We have Chromebooks for our students, but we don't have mice. Mice would allow our students to be able to work with the Chromebooks so much easier since we do not have touch screens. Math Science Olympiad items: We also need things like Soma cubes, Tangrams, and Speed Stackers for events. Engagement! Here we come!
