My students are deaf and hard of hearing and they require multiple modalities to learn concepts. I like to implement hands-on learning such as art and drawing to help my students access concepts. Due to language delay, my students require visuals to help them understand academic concepts. Art helps the students use the visual mode to learn as well as allow them to express themselves using art. My deaf and hard of hearing students work extremely hard to be successful in the classroom. Many of my students have sensory processing disorders in addition to deafness. Using sensory objects helps students to focus during class. Weighted stuffed animals help students to sit calmly, feel secure, and focus during class.
