My students have all experienced trauma in their short lives. They are learning new coping techniques, ways to engage with others in a safe way, and learning to trust themselves and others in new situations. My students have often spent more time in crisis than in educational settings. Most of my students are significantly behind their grade level peers. Students that have experienced trauma often are more concerned about surviving rather than being a child and learning problem solving skills as well as developing cooperative group skills.
Students will be able to use the new classroom materials to be able to work together developing positive educational successes and encouraging educational exploration in a safe and fun environment.
My students want to be successful. They want to enjoy being a child. The kits that I have requested will allow students to create different projects that will work and that is theirs to take home. The students will find success and satisfaction working in a space for making.
I chose to use art materials as well as kits that the students can use to create successful projects to take home with them, such as, Design & Play STEAM Kits. I have also included chipboard animal sculptures, Survive the Quake Engineering Kit, along with the early coding materials that I was able to order last year for students to find interesting and fun ways to problem solve.
