By having a set of 8 headphones and CD player, I will be able to create a listening center for my Kindergarteners. Children need to learn to use their imagination to visualize what they are reading or listening to. Nowadays it is difficult to do this because of so much screen time where pictures are readily available. Kindergarteners love to listen to stories, and by being able to listen they will learn to visualize what they are listening to. Using their imagination allows them to explore places and ideas that they create, not that a computer creates for them. In addition by following along they will be able to recognize familiar words and consequently learn to read.
