Students at my school are from a low-income neighborhood. Many come from immigrant families with parents that may not have attended college. Our school is a public charter that promotes a college-bound culture. Many are English learners and have faced many struggles in school, including a lack of math prerequisite skills. Although students face many negative influences like gangs, drugs, and violence in the community, they find relief at school and are determined to succeed and go to college.
