The funds would be utilized to incorporate STEAM activities into our classroom on a regular basis through the use of centers and recess time. Since a high percentage of our students come from a low socioeconomic background they are not exposed to nor provided with many opportunities to participate in hands-on learning experiences focused around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. An active learning environment not only will hold students’ attention better; but also will engage them in problem solving and allow them to find solutions on their own. These experiences will be beneficial to them now and in their future especially with the growth and high demand of STEAM related jobs. By incorporating and combining the STEAM disciplines I am trying to ensure a prosperous future for my students. As research has shown students better remember what they’ve learned when they are engaged in the process, and not passive by-standers. Utilizing such STEAM tools and ideas will allow the students to make connections and learn skills that they will need outside of the classroom in the real world.
