My students struggle to know where certain countries are in the world. They struggle with where the states are in the U.S.A. We become cartographers during our geography time in class. They depend so much on their devices to accomplish many activities, but they don't know how to read a map or tell you how to get from point A to point B without Googling it. I allow the students discovery time to do both without any device. We map states in The United States and Mexico, provinces in Canada and detail out other country maps of their choice. The atlases that we have are from 1986. They are falling apart and pages are missing.
