Reading fluency is so important – studies show this skill impacts a student’s ability to succeed in every class they take, and the amount of reading a student does has been correlated to academic as well as career performance. I want to create a classroom library that is as rich and vibrant as the students who will use it. My goal is to be able to provide my students with exciting, compelling and culturally relevant reading materials that will spark a true love for reading that will last throughout their lives. Research shows over and over again that the number one factor in reading success is access to books. Offering books that resonate with my students cultures and heritage will improve students' reading development. A diverse classroom library will give my students greater access to books that will continue to spark a passion for reading that will hopefully propel them through school and beyond.
