Students will be studying the character qualities of the characters we read about in class. After the teacher reads a story to the class, we will discuss the qualities of that character. We will ask: How did this character behave? What did this character do that you liked? How did this character change throughout the story? What made them change? What qualities would you like to copy and repeat in your life? The students will have their own copy at their tables for better discuss and to find evidence in the book. After studying character qualities in many stories, the students will create a poster project. The students will each pick their own character and make a poster, designed after that character. They will also write about that character and what they learned from that character. They will present their posters and essays to the class. By the end of the project, the students, will have a deeper understanding of character qualities, know what makes up a strong character, make a decision about what qualities they what to have in themselves, and have a deeper appreciation for literature.
