In order for my students to learn they need to feel safe and comfortable in the classroom. For my students, this means having a space on the carpet that is their own. Most of our learning happens on the carpet, so feeling safe and comfortable is key. The carpet is a space for my students to feel safe to listen to stories, share stories, learn from myself and others, and feel comfortable in the classroom. Students need an inviting space in order to boost the classroom environment and encourage learning. If students do not feel comfortable sitting in class, then they will not feel comfortable to learn.
