At the student's request, I'm offering an anatomy and physiology course this year. It is and intense class covering seven units a quarter (most other classes do three or four) and a couple of labs a week. The material needs for anatomy labs have been far beyond what we expected. The school has already purchased slides, preserved rats, and student workbooks. I've shelled out for about ten pounds of modeling clay and mini-skeletons. But some needed items are beyond our reach. In this Donors Choose project, I'm requesting a disarticulated skeleton. That's a box of model human bones not all joined up. Students will be working to sort it out into a complete skeleton (archeologist style) and also examining individual bones and noting the features. I'm also requesting synthetic blood so that students can complete a blood typing lab. It's a routine medical diagnostic that provides a way of understanding the immune system, cell signaling, and lab techniques. It's my hope that we can use these materials to provide students an interactive, genuine experience that provides exposure to medical fields and prepares them for college. Thank you.
