My self contained learning center does not have a science lab. My students, who have emotional, behavioral and intellectual disabilities, crave opportunities to apply the scientific method. With microscopes, slides, engineering sets, magnets, prisms, robotics and more, I can let them explore the topics we are learning about. They can utilize the scientific method and see science at work first hand. We will be looking at prepared slides, as well as some we make, under a microscope. We will explore bacteria. We will be building robots and circuit boards. We will explore magnetism and prisms. And at a student's request, we will be making elephant toothpaste in the flasks. Another student wants to make fossil replicas with the plaster of paris. These items will offer endless hours of science exploration to my students.
