As an educator trying to mitigate the achievement gap of my students compared to those with abundant resources, I integrate technology whenever possible in my curriculum. Not only are students acquiring English, they are also building valuable computer skills that they will need to be successful in college. At my school, we have a 1 to 1 program with Chromebooks as our chosen devices. They work seamlessly with the Google suite of products, and they are reasonably priced. Despite our best efforts, it is sometimes difficult for students to always have a functional device when they need to learn; they can be sidelined too easily by technical issues, or even worse, theft. As an institution, we try to make sure all of our students are ready to learn, but sometimes, they have to suffer long delays getting a replacement which can set them back academically. Because of these challenges, the Chromebooks in this project I am requesting are to assist students in these adverse situations in class. The Samsung Chromebook I requested will also enhance my instruction allowing students to interact with content using a touchscreen and or stylus pen improving accessibility.
