I am a first-year ESL teacher at a very overcrowded elementary school in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. I work with second and third grade students who do not speak English natively. My students come from all over the globe: Bangladesh, Guinea, the Dominican Republic, Yemen, Colombia, and many other countries. They have already impressed upon me their ingenuity and sheer desire to learn. I am determined to teach them English and grade-level content simultaneously, a task which would be much easier if I could acquire some tools that schools like mine often lack: technology and books for each student, for example. I am very excited to see what I can facilitate for my students in the year ahead!
