The resources in our district are limited and it has become impossible for students to cover the necessary difference as a direct result of Hurricane Harvey. While I cannot solve all of the problems this storm has caused for my students I can do everything in my power to give my students a step up and consistency in my classroom to help ease their lives in the aftermath of this catastrophic storm. Having these calculators will give my students the best chance to be successful this year and future years in math.
Having the proper tools to do the job will empower my students to be responsible for their own growth in math.
Because my students are so behind, exploring new concepts and skills in math is frequently a very daunting and overwhelming task. I want to open doors for my kids not just by equipping them with calculators that will allow them to be successful in class and on assessments, but I want to show them how their untapped potential can translate beyond the classroom. Success in math, especially for my kids that think they “just don’t get it”, will foster my students' development as leaders in our community and open doors that they never even knew existed.
