We grade in color, we take notes in color, and we practice problems in color. Because of this we need more supplies! Having the opportunity to add color in 5th grade math increases their engagement therefore increases their understanding. " Can we use the pens?" "Can I show my work on the whiteboard?" "Can I use a highlighter?" "Can we write on the desks today? These are all questions you hear in my class. As soon as the students walk into my class they can see what we have on the agenda for the day. They get excited to practice math problems when they see it involves anything other than pencil and paper.
