Research shows that some students are often better able to focus on their work when they are able to move in some way. This is why we all tap, doodle, or otherwise move a bit when we're concentrating. Students with ADD, ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder, Autism and motor skills deficits require many opportunities to self regulate through movement. Providing each student with a Bouncy Band for their desk will give my students the chance to continue working while moving their feet in a satisfying, but quiet way. The Bouncy Bands will allow this much needed movement with fewer interruptions to their classmates as well. These types of materials also increase independence and coping skills, allowing the student to identify what he or she can do to refocus, and when self-regulation is needed.
