Our state funds have been frozen but our students' needs have not. The requested books and CDs will provide new resources to help first grade students develop reading fluency. I am a school media coordinator at a K-5 elementary school. Our school has 412 students in 19 classrooms. We have a growing ESL (English as a Second Language) population and a number of students with economic needs. Approximately 52% of our children are on free or reduced meals and a number of our parents are unemployed due to plant closings in our community. Our county's unemployment rate is over 7%.

About my class
