In order to preserve teaching jobs during the budget cuts, our school has had to cut the cost of a nightly cleaning crew to keep our rooms clean. The responsibility to vacuum floors, and disinfect surfaces falls on us as classroom teachers to do on our planning time, or as an opportunity for students to gain life skills by helping out. It's proven that students will perform better in an environment that is clean and free of clutter. Attendance is vital to the success of my students and one way I can cut down on germs spreading and illness in my room is to have the resources to disinfect it often. Having a vacuum to keep the floors free of paper and debris from the day-to-day shuffle of more than 75 students in and out would be very beneficial, as well as cleaning supplies to properly disinfect my tables and chairs frequently.
