My students are fun, excited, and loving the way we are integrating personalized learning with mathematics. Currently, we have a traditional looking classroom with grouped desks and tables. I am looking to transform it into a more comfortable space for the kids. Everyone knows that teens are always on the go, and why shouldn't their seating reflect that? By having a more flexible learning environment, students have the chance to work in small groups, individually, or meet with a teacher in comfort and style. Students retain more when they are happy, and the flexible seating in this project would provide them with a calm, centered, place of learning. I am requesting new furniture (table, bean bag chairs and yoga ball chairs) and a rug to redo a portion of the classroom. The students can sit on cushions around the room and use whiteboards to show their work and work with a small group. For students choosing to stay in their seats, the chair bands will give them something to do with their always moving feet! Students can gather in the room or hallway in small groups working with the lap desks as a portable learning device. These items will make a difference in my student's lives by providing access to a comfortable and cooperative learning environment. Most of my students come from low-income households and travel long distances to make it to school every day. By having a comfortable and homey learning environment, students will be positively reinforced for coming to school. Thank you very much for your consideration.
