By implementing additional technological opportunities for our students, we look to stimulate their critical thinking skills and create a passion for education. Our students come from underprivileged backgrounds and do not have much experience with technology use in the classroom. Many of these young children have been negatively affected by tumultuous family settings and are in dire need of a nurturing and supportive academic environment.
We hope to improve their knowledge of technology, so that they will be able to use these skills to attain a higher level of education and independence as they develop into young adults. The iPad's would present the students with opportunities to strengthen language and reading skills by using applications that focus on fluency and decoding strategies. Students can also have stories read to them as they follow along with the narrator. The iPad's will provide opportunity to the students for addition mathematical support, which will increase retention of key math facts that are essential to the foundations of mathematical concepts. We hope to assist these young students through their emotional struggles to meet their goals and reach success in their endeavors with the additional support the iPad's will bring to the classroom.
