My students come from countries all around the world. They have been brought to the Unites States to pursue better lives and opportunities. Their chance begins here at our program. The House on Mango Street book will provide students a bit of comfort knowing that they are not the first or the last members of our school, but they are a part of a family, and individually unique to us. We want them to carry that sense of their originality and their own identities by relating to Esperanza and her family. The students will be able to create identity maps and work out of a novel that is relatable to them and what they are going through as new students to our program.
