Students struggle to understand that acceleration is a change in velocity. Ticker timers demonstrate a measurable change in the velocity of an object by providing marks at even time intervals. The difference from one mark to the next can be measured and used to calculate the speed or velocity, comparing successive marks allows students to calculate and visualize acceleration. It is imperative that students develop a conceptual understanding of acceleration. Conceptual understanding comes from experimental and other learning styles. These will also be used to calculate force with Newtons laws and energy conservation during collisions. Getting back to hands on Science is my number one goal.
