Can I stand up? Can I work on the floor? Those are common requests in my classroom. My students gravitate to areas of our classroom where they can work in a comfortable position. Items on my list will allow them to have more freedom to choose how they learn. Having the ability to move when learning will stimulate their brains and help them process information. Having various modalities for learning will decrease redirection of student behavior and lead to more instruction. My students with Attention Deficit Disorder truly need movement to be successful in class. Fidget bands, stability balls and wobble seats will help my students get the wiggles out and focus on learning. Children who stand to work and lay on the floor will be ecstatic when they see yoga mats and standing desks. These items will be used by all learners in my diverse classroom.
