The crochet club is an on-campus community that supports students’ social and emotional health, provides a safe space for students to meet like-minded new friends, and allows for students to develop or build upon their current crochet skills. I am thrilled that so many students are interested in crocheting, but our available materials are limited and students have little money to spend on extracurricular activities such as crochet. This DonorsChoose project will help fund crochet materials, such as crochet hooks, yarn, stuffing, and safety eyes so that students can work on more advanced crochet projects as they participate in the crochet club. In the club, students will work together to create items, such as hats, scarves, blankets, amigurumis, etc. for themselves and the community that they live in. We have started learning the basics of crochet such as how to hold a hook & yarn, how to make a chain, and how to do multiple rows of single crochet in a square and circle. Students have been making great progress and many are ready to advance their skills by working with different yarns and hook sizes to create more advanced projects. Students have a voice in the projects we work on and they will progress at their own pace, helping each other out as they learn.
