Because text dependent questioning is an essential part of ELA, my eighth grade students must be able to effectively annotate what they've read. However, our school only has class sets of most of the books we use, so students may not mark in them. The small post-it notes will offer a great way for students to productively annotate texts. This annotation will enhance their Lit. Circle discussions or Socratic Seminars. It will also help them to organize their thoughts before answering text dependent questions. The books about text dependent questions and annotation will help me to create meaningful lessons that will also be motivating.
