When you are having a hard time, would you rather sit in a hard plastic chair or a comfortable couch or bean bag? When students come to the counseling center, we want them to feel at home. Students often think they are in trouble when they come to the counseling center. We want to debunk those feelings. Students should feel welcome and safe to express their emotions without restriction. Part of that includes having them sit in a comfortable position rather than feeling tense in a hard chair. A sofa and bean bags in the office will allow students to be comfortable when speaking with the counselors, especially when they are in distress.
