The supplies that I am requesting already have a spot waiting for them! More and more we are leaning toward nonfiction based writing and students need to be given the opportunity to find research based facts to include in their essays. With only 1 computer in the classroom, it makes it difficult to accomplish this goal. This computer could give students a chance to research things that interest them and therefore, that interest, will spill over into their writing. Students also have quarterly Accelerated Reader goals they must meet. Once they read a book, they take a comprehension test on a computer to gradually obtain all the points they need. With an extra computer, students will have more opportunities to take their tests thereby reducing the time between when they finished their books and when they take their tests.
