While doing hands-on engineering design projects it is essential to plan, and keep track of mistakes and data and gather research. A simple notebook can be the vessel that my students need to capture the wealth of information gathered during the engineering design process. All projects will begin with a fairy tale or fable to give my students a basis for their project and hopefully will inspire more research. A challenge is then set forth and a plan is made. Plans are executed and data is collected. Improvements are made and tested and finally conclusions are drawn. All of this needs to be documented in a notebook.
