My classroom is filled with incredible young minds, many of which do not have sufficient access to relevant and appropriate books, who are in need of exposure to rich high-interest texts that will help instill within them a lifelong love of reading. My goal is to guide my students to love reading, and I believe part of achieving that goal is empowering each of them with choice. In place of requiring students to read a teacher-chosen text, these additions to our classroom library will provide students with opportunities to explore books from various genres, covering a variety of real-world issues impacting them on daily basis: bullying, friendship, and peer pressure, to name a few. Creating a community of learners that are empowered to make their own literary choices and decisions builds student engagement, and engagement leads to passion. Please consider donating to this project, which will continue to benefit students for years to come. With your help, we can build a generation of book lovers!
