The couch and two chairs will provide flexible seating for my students so they can work through their complicated problems during individual or group counseling sessions. Our sessions allow them to build stronger social-emotional skills, positive problem solving skills, greater self-awareness, and a sense of community. Creating an environment that is welcoming and comfortable means that students will be more willing to share their story and work towards a solid, successful solution. When students are able to move on from their problems, they are better able to learn. Students are successful when their thoughts and feelings do not interfere with their academic lessons. I want to provide an environment conducive to helping improve my student's social and emotional skills. This is why I love being a counselor-I get to be a place where it is easy to unload their problems so we can work towards a positive solution to increase academic and social success.
