My students need to read more non-fiction to increase their world knowledge which will increase their literacy and ability to apply knowledge to new problems. Reading Time for Kids will give each student access to articles about science, culture, technology, geography, and current events. Students will learn to navigate the layout of magazines and use the articles for models in their own writing. We also need a place to store donated magazines and newspapers that will be used during independent reading time. Having a periodical rack will display magazine in an appealing way. This will be a great way to increase student engagement in literacy activities.
