As I was looking around a coffee shop, I realized that everyone seemed to be happy, engaged in their work, and relaxed. Some people chose the traditional tables, some the comfy chairs, and some choose cushions that were neatly place on the floor looking out the window. And if I wanted to switch up my seat during my stay, I was free to do that. That's when I decided that our classroom was going to need to change. If student motivation and higher engagement is truly the desired end game, than as their teacher I must adapt my classroom to fit the needs of students. Everything I do in my classroom is based on research and best practices for kids. I want to students to have the opportunity to choose a seat that will help them learn best. I believe students need the opportunity to move, wobble, and bounce to help them stay engaged.
